It's still not entirely clear to me what exists at this location.
The current website for the parking seems very clear, there are 131 stations, those powered by MobileCharge https://www.matterhorngotthardbahn.ch/en/products/e-zone
The car park is equipped with 131 state-of-the-art electric charging stations. The electric charging stations are equipped with a type 2 plug and 7 m cable and up to 22 kW charging power. Book your e-parking space online. This will guarantee you space in the car park's E-Zone. The parking guidance system shows the available parking spaces. A separate area is reserved for e-cars on the upper floor (please follow the signage).
I'm not actually sure how to get to that "E Zone" webpage from the site. I found it via search engine. It used to be linked from the parking page but seems to no longer be. On the main page https://www.matterhorngotthardbahn.ch/en/stories/parking-matterhorn-terminal-taesch there is an FAQ with the same information:
I am driving an electric car, what do I need to know?
The car park is equipped with 131 state-of-the-art electric charging stations. When booking your parking space, you can select that you need a charging station.
The electric charging stations are equipped with a type 2 plug and 7 m cable and up to 22 kW charging power. Electricity consumption is billed individually. The E-Zone is located on the upper floor.
Payment (CHF 4.00 per charge and 55 Rp./kWh) is made via QR code / NFC tag at the charging stations. Accepted payment methods: credit card, TWINT, SMS, Apple Pay and Google Pay.
You do not have to move your electric vehicle after charging. You can leave it in the chosen parking space during your stay.
A similar text is archived on the Wayback Machine back in December 2022. It seems like the website was re-designed around that time, so older pages followed a different structure.
The pictures on the website show there's a dedicated ticket gate for the "E-Zone". On the website you can reserve a parking spot and choose between "Parking" and "Parking with e-charging stations". It's the same parking price.
On the Zermatt website there is one more piece of information https://www.zermatt.ch/en/Media/Attractions/Matterhorn-Terminal-Taesch
10 parking spaces for disabled persons, two of them with E-charging stations
I found older information archived on the Zermatt website.
The archives between August 2020 and November 2022 mention an older setup:
The car park has 24 spaces for electric cars (with free Type 2 / 16A and three-phase chargers)
The next version of the page in April 2023 has the current text about the E-Zone with 131 stations. There are no archives for the page between 2016-2019. The version from 2015 makes no mention of chargers.
Back to the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn website, the older design of the site has some older information as well. The oldest archive from April 2017 says:
5 Stellplätze im Parkhaus mit kostenloser Elektro-Tankstelle (Type2/16 A/3 Ph)
The versions from November 2018 to October 2019 say there are chargers but not how many:
Das Parkhaus ist seit Neuestem mit modernsten Elektro-Ladestationen ausgestattet.
Die Elektro-Tankstellen sind mit Typ 2/16 Ampere und /3 Phasen Anschlüssen ausgerüstet.
Below the text there's a picture showing Mennekes chargers in area 2E. We see 4 chargers but there must be at least 5 because there's a green spot on the left whose station would be hidden by the pillar.
There is a big gap in archives then until the next one.
A later version from October 2020 re-uses the same picture but updates the text to say how many chargers there are:
Das Parkhaus ist mit 24 modernsten Elektro-Ladestationen ausgestattet. Die Elektro-Tankstellen sind mit Typ 2/16 Ampere und /3 Phasen Anschlüssen ausgerüstet. Sie können Ihr Elektrofahrzeug ohne Aufpreis und ohne Vorreservation auf diesen Plätzen parken und laden.
The version from February to October 2022 still says the same:
Das Parkhaus ist mit 24 modernsten Elektro-Ladestationen ausgestattet. Die Elektro-Tankstellen sind mit Typ 2/16 Ampere und /3 Phasen Anschlüssen ausgerüstet. Sie können Ihr Elektrofahrzeug ohne Aufpreis und ohne Vorreservation auf diesen Plätzen parken und laden.
But now below is a picture of at least 6 evpass chargers in area 1E.
There are no further archives of the old version of the site, the next archives are for the new version mentioned at the beginning of this report.
In the old-old version of the site, I couldn't find a page about the parking, except this PDF from April 2016 which mentions the parking size (2100 covered car park spaces) and prices but no mention of chargers.
At some point there were evpass stations here, and the marker is still live in the evpass app, showing 19 stations but without any live availability. The stations show price free. All are listed as being on floor 2.
We can piece up some information from other community sites but it's still not very clear what the history is.
The GoingElectric description mentions "Parkplätze 3D.001 bis 3D.131" for the new chargers and also that the MobileCharge IDs match with the parking space numbers (16222001_xxx:01
.
The Chargemap description mentions " Niveau 2E. Places de parc de 2E137 à 2E143 et de 2E153 à 2E157." which must be in reference to some of the older chargers.
There's a Chargemap comment from November 2022 saying the free evpass chargers have been replaced with paid chargers.
There are multiple Chargemap comments from 2022 mentioning the chargers being free but also having difficulty activating them, as it seems like the evpass badge was required for activation and other roaming RFID wouldn't work.
There's a Chargemap comment from August 2021 saying the charge was still free and new chargers added on all floors towards the center of the floors.
There's a Chargemap comment from October 2020 saying no badge was necessary to charge for free.
The earlier Chargemap comment is from January 2019 saying there are "about 14 spots".
